Core Values

Dutabarane’s central motivation for life and for service and delivery of all its programs and interventions is the example of Jesus Christ who lived a holistic life and gave a holistic mandate (the great commandments and the great commission). This is the same motivation and mandate of the network of churches that make up Dutabarane’s membership. Dutabarane reinforces the message of the Kingdom of God as articulated in the Biblical Scriptures by establishing and executing its development programs and activities with absolute integrity, transparency, and accountability “as unto the Lord” and Soli Deo Gloria – to the glory of God alone! We believe we must be persons of good character, i.e. honest, truthful, reliable, and upright. Integrity of character is at the core of community and national transformation and therefore there is no authentic transformation without Christ-centred integrity.

As a network of different denominations and churches, Dutabarane, of necessity, executes its programs and interventions through partnering and collaborating with those within its network and with other development partners outside the network of churches. The Church Empowerment Clusters (CECs) are Dutabarane’s core strategy for disseminating its programs and initiatives. The churches in the clusters are organized to partner and collaborate together. The sharing of knowledge, skills, experience, money, material and other resources across the CECs and the entire network is central to Dutabarane’s organizational culture. Collaboration implies mutual respect and unity of purpose amongst and across all individuals and congregations, regardless of position, status, cultural and ethnic background, gender, and all other diabolic divisions that undermine development and transformation. At Dutabarane we shall be polite, kind, courteous, and humble towards one another in keeping with the instructions of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This Core Value refers to the manner in which all Dutabarane’s programs, interventions, and initiatives are delivered and implemented. This is done following industry best practices and quality standards of acceptable behavior and service delivery. We see a commitment to quality of programs and services themselves, as well as quality of actual delivery of these programs and services as part and parcel of our commitment to the principles and convictions of our Christian faith.

We shall be hardworking, diligent, attentive, conscientious, and thorough in our work and in putting into practice everything we learn in order to produce results. We know that there is no short-cut to development and that hard work is the secret to productivity and sustainability of our organization. We shall demonstrate our diligence, stewardship, i.e. responsible management of money and all the resources that God has put in our hands, including our environment. We shall keep our surroundings clean and desist from throwing rubbish and litter carelessly – we shall lead by example. We shall be particularly careful to destroy or recycle plastic material that degrades our soil. We shall continue our practice of planting trees and promotion of renewable energy all across our entire network and regions in Burundi.(Acts 20:33-35).

It will take courage, patience, endurance, and perseverance to be true to our Core Values, as well as actualize our Vision and Mission. Thankfully we have the Lord Jesus Himself as our example, “who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:3). We shall encourage and support one another daily to persevere in our commitments and tasks and teach these things to every individual, church, and partner the Lord has given to us as we collaborate together towards the vision of “An HIV-AIDS and Poverty-Free, Transformed Burundi”… for “If God is for us, who can be against us” (Romans 8:31)?
